Chris has always loved eating, so he started cooking at home at a young age with his family. He got his first restaurant job at 15 as a prep cook and dishwasher, then continued working back of house positions through his time in college where he studied hospitality management. At school, he took courses in wine, beer, and food and wine pairing, and discovered a whole new way to appreciate food. After graduating, Chris made the switch to a front of house role and managed for a DC-area restaurant company for 9 years, followed by a stint working at a non-profit entrepreneurship fellowship program for veterans with disabilities. There he was able to put his management skills to work teaching business skills to service members returning to civilian life. Chris knew after that that he wanted his work to have purpose, so he found the Beer & Wine Department Leader position at Roots Market where he could get back into wine and beer, while helping to promote sustainable viticulture and local craft breweries. One of Chris’s greatest passions is making wine and beer approachable for everyone and helping people find a new beverage to enjoy. When he’s not at Roots, Chris still loves to cook for and spend time with his wife, daughter, and dogs.
